So, my hair is getting thinner and thinner by the year, which is upsetting to me. Everyone tells me I’m crazy and “it’s fine” if I ask, so I stopped asking. In the interest of proving my point, let’s put it this way: my former two inch thick pony tail is now barely 1 inch thick, and my head of hair that used to have trouble finding a part line it was so thick now has scalp showing through. Trust me, it’s thinning. So, since I’m big on just rolling with things when possible, I’m thinking of changing my style a bit so it looks a bit better. Recently I changed my avatar on Twitter for a few days to an old pic of me with bangs. Now, my hair is not that thick any more so I know I can’t pull off that particular bangs look, I’m thinking something a bit different. Let me know what you think.

The bangs that inspired the idea for the change (and that got 127 direct messages on Twitter telling me to go back to bangs. Who knew Twitter cared about my hair that much?)

The thick hair days:

This summer, standing with my friend Gradon:

So now I am in mid perm (I always get a spiral perm. I know, how 80s/90s of me!). That means I either do the winter time usual of trim it and wait for it to grow out so I can perm again without damaging the ends, or change the look.
I’m thinking of this cut, but not sure I have the hair (or face) to pull it off:

hair cut

And I want to change from my usual natural dark dirty blond color to one of these strawberry blonde reddish ones:

red one

or

red four

What do you think? Now about the thinning hair part, not looking for advice on that, but about the cut and color? Too much?

Wow! You really look like Laura from Twin Peaks in that second pic.

I’m not sure what hairstyle to go with as I’m a useless guy, but if you bring your options to a good stylist they should be able to figure out which one look best on you.

Hey, guys can have opinions on girl hair :) It’s allowed. Plus, I asked. Is it weird that I find it oddly complimentary to be lumped in with a cast member of one my old fave shows? lol

I love the cut. The color not the palish, Marilyn Monroe, but the one sitting in the chair. Go for it… hair grows!

i like the second to last one…color wise…i think the strawberry would be nice on you. as for cut, shorter with lots of layers will help give it volume. go to a hair dresser you trust (or go to mine, he is amazing!) and have them give suggestions on what style will work best with your hair :)

I think I’d need to spend more time with your hair. :)

Right off the bat: perms actually can create thinning over time, because they weaken the shaft of the hair.

Are you getting them just because you always have, or to manage natural wave, or what? You might want to slow down on the perming, and start going with what nature gave ya.:)

I think too much length also thins things out. It makes us feel like we have a lot of hair, when we just have heaviness.

    Think on these:

Shoulder length and a bit beyond, decent product, a diffuser, some serum and a touch of curling iron. Easy peasy.

Definitely go back with bangs. A layered cut is always better for thin or thinning hair because you get more body. I think it would look good with the longest layer an inch or so below the shoulders and the shortest at your chin line, then side swept bangs. imho.

I think that would look nice!

  8. I love the REDDISH hair, and I totally vote for bangs. However, bangs are a true commitment to maintain them.

I’ve been sporting bangs for over a year, but I need a break from them. I am in the transition stage with my bangs and its annoying as all hell!

  9. So bangs can be just a little in the middle with a few blunt long face layers to tuck behind your ears. That way, the bangs can grow out fast and you don't have such a big commitment to make. Go for the straight choppy pic, love it. Lose the perm, it's outdated AND contributes to your hair's health/thinning. Wash your hair with 1 part peroxide, 1 part organic apple cider vinegar 10 parts spring water a few times a week (store in water bottle) and limit commercial products as much as possible. I use ZERO product.

Here are some HAIR foods to eat raw and try to eat a shot of black strap molasses daily:

Green tea, egg whites, lean meats, garlic, Avocado, soymilk and cheese, peanuts, kale, spinach, collards, asparagus, rep peppers, beets, fresh or stewed tomatoes, blueberries and blackberries, salmon tuna, cashews, pecans, almonds and Brazil nuts, green and black olives, cucumbers, celery, Vitamin A, raw carrots, fresh cantaloupe and baked sweet potatoes
