As any good Vayniac knows, our favorite wine guy is all about giving credit where credit is due, saying thank you to people, showing some love and spreading happiness around. It’s half the reason people watch his show (now shows). Yesterday he posted a vlog about good people, and asked the internet to help spread the love by doing the same. Most memes I avoid, but I like this one, so count me in, GaryVee.

I think the meme asked us to pick one person, but I come in contact with too many good people to do that. So I’m just going to talk about a few people who I think are good people, famous and not famous. First, the public figures:

Ze Frank: I don’t know Ze Frank in real life, but I like to think that any one who works so hard at bringing strangers together online and off, who is that creative and who fosters that much creativity in others can’t possibly be a bad person. So Ze Frank is my first “good person” today. I was “on” the internet before he started his Ze Frank’s The Show, but it was his show and my fellow show watchers (Duckies and Sports Racers) who pulled me deeper “in” to the internet and helped me connect to more of the real people behind the monitors. I am forever grateful.

Gary Vaynerchuk: Yeah, yeah, yeah, this one was a softball choice, but who doesn’t love GaryVee? Sure his wine reviews are unique and he has done much to expand my palate, but that isn’t why I watch WineLibraryTV or his other vlog Gary Vay•Ner•Chuk. I watch because his is this fast moving, upbeat positive force who spends his internet credentials (which are huge) trying to make the sometimes anonymous and needlessly mean internet a better place. I love that instead of name dropping and ego stroking and back biting like many of the other “big names” in cyberspace, he uses his powers for good, not evil. Thank you, GaryVee, for making wine and the internet fun. Heck, you might even make me start to like Joisey… ha ha ha

Barack Obama: I have no idea how he’d be in the Oval Office, but I’m thinking pretty solid. He comes across as a straight shooter, looks problems dead on and doesn’t shy away from addressing issues, and above all else, has so far managed to avoid smear politics more than most. His aura of integrity resonates with me, and actually swung my vote this year. It is his strong effort to stay out of the mud slinging as much as possible, in spite of other campaigns best efforts, that has him on this list today, though.

Many of the people on my Twitter stream, like GeekMommy, Pistachio, Meg Fowler and others, seem lovely, but I am still getting to know you. I have a feeling you’d be on a future Good People list, though. On to the real life peeps:

My MIL, Maxine: This lady works tirelessly for church and charity without so much as a “thank you” most of the time. She does everything from running local soup kitchens to traveling to New Orleans to fix houses. She raises money to fix her church, she fundraises for the homeless, for Cambodian orphans, for Katrina victims. She inspires me (and also kind of wears me out – the woman is busy) and she inspires others, and she is a genuine good person.

My BFF, Meleah: I have known Meleah for over 20 years (yikes). We met in high school, when we were both having hard times, and have remained strong friends over the years. She is in New Jersey now (hmm, a pattern emerges…), and I am up here in New Hampshire, so we don’t get to see as much of each other as we’d like, but Meleah is definitely a good person. She overcomes enormous obstacles in health and finances to focus on her family and friends and make sure their lives are not only enriched any way she can enrich them, but preserved for future generations. She has become the historian of her family’s treasure trove of memories, with hours and hours of video and audio footage, capturing the stories of all ages, and I think that is very, very cool.

I have a long list of people to include that I’m not sure want their names online (I’m guessing not since many of them don’t even have email), so I’ll just thank them for being good people over the years in my head and hope they feel the vibes where they are in California, Oregon, Arizona, and more… Maybe I’ll call them all later and spread the love in person.

Who is your good person? Tell me in the comments, or blog about it and come back and share the link with us. Spread the love!
