The Anti HFA Movement Makes The News
Keep it going, people! In the comments of this post is a link to the NEW petition, too.
Unfortunately the article mainly concentrates on cost. Cost is an issue, but it isn’t my biggest issue. My biggest issue is health impact.
1) The HFA inhalers are not consistent. They do not all use the same ingredients. They do not disclose their ingredients either, so people who want an inhaler with the same contents as Warrick’s Albuterol CFC can’t figure out which one is closest in composition, and neither can their doctors.
2) Many of the HFA inhalers use ethanol, which is bad for people. In fact, ProAir, which uses only Ethanol, made my asthma so much worse after years of being controlled that my doctor has a note in my file stating I can NOT use ProAir HFA due to extreme adverse reaction. I don’t know about you, but I care more about what is bad for people than the stupid ozone layer and what my microscopic CFC inhaler might have done to it.
3) I don’t like the assumption that all asthma must be controlled with the even MORE expensive drugs like Singulair or Advair. My asthma was under control with exercise and once weekly Warrick CFC Albuterol use for over a decade, until I got ProAir in the hospital in January and it tanked my asthma. TANKED IT. It hasn’t been under control since that drug touched my lungs. At one point I was using ProAir up to 6 times a DAY, not understanding that what was supposed to be HELPING me was making me worse.
Call your reps, fight the switch. Bring back Warrick Albuterol CFC! And whatever else do NOT use ProAir. Ever.
